SHANGHAI, Jul. 28 (SMM) – China’s aluminum semis exports surged 46.43% year-on-year to 410,000 tonnes in June, customs data showed.
Disguised exports of aluminum – shaped as aluminum semis and re-melted at destination to become a substitute for primary metal – were behind the significant growth, SMM’s aluminum research team said.
Extrusion exports hit 163,000 tonnes in June, soaring 133.87% year-on-year and 68.04% month-on-month, customs data showed. Nearly 100,000 tonnes of aluminum extrusion was exported to Vietnam and Malaysia, which might be transhipment points for so-called “disguised Chinese aluminum semis” that will ultimately land elsewhere.
